Summary: The Elders of the four Great Sects: Jiang, Nie, Jin, and Lan. (for some definition of "Elder")
Sometimes, you just have to know when to stop pushing so hard. Work smarter, not harder, etc.

Review: Fix it for the Untamed that revolves around various cultivators focusing on their own health and chronic conditions rather than sect nonsense.

Fix its are common in any Tragedy canon and the Untamed is no exception. Though most of the time this focuses on making someone more powerful rather than giving up on power.

In addition to my love of seeing something different in the fixit genre. MarbleGlove is known for these types of AUs. But I particularly love this AU because it both has a lot of humor and is inherently about showing kindness both to others, and more importantly to yourself.

Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence; Danger to Children (consistent with setting); Passing mention of Suicidal Ideation

Author's Website: hemingyay's AO3

Summary: Katsuki says, ‘You’d think differently of me if you knew everything.’ If you knew how bad things are with my quirk now. Or about my massive disgusting crush on you, Katsuki thinks.

‘I wouldn’t. Whatever happens, I’m always going to be in your corner, Katsuki,’ All Might tells him.

After Katsuki loses an arm saving Izuku, he drops twenty spots in the hero rankings and the world assumes his career is over. Forced back to Musutafu, he’s appointed a babysitter while he recovers: All Might.

It doesn’t help he never got over his giant, stupid teenage crush on him and his quirk isn't working the way it used to. In any case, Toshinori really doesn’t seem to mind.

Review: So I'm mostly in the teacher track part of the BNHA fandom. Where canon disabled characters abound even if not well explored in canon. Yagi Toshinori who is very obviously dealing with a degrading body in canon is a particular hot bed for deeply disabled and adult fics.

This is an unusual overlap between that and the younger generation. Where Yagi as mentor is acting as a mentor into becoming disabled and retaining heroic status. In mirror to his canon issues about being a mentor while dealing with his own issues around quirklessness.

Also some really raunchy and kinky sex. That acts as part of the character arc. Rather than sex and romance being the character arc.

Summary: Luo Binghe has it all: the respect of the cultivation world, the home he always wanted, and Shizun's love. There's just one problem: if Shizun ever finds out he's a demon, it's going to ruin everything.

Review: Neery is one of my favorite authors. I've followed them in a number of fandoms and always enjoy when we end up in the same one at the same time. Luo Binghe's voice is impeccable and Neery does such a good job of Knowing both what is factually going on in the story and showing how fact of Binghe's understanding is. Playing with an unreliable narrator which such a skilled hand that you start to jump along as he jumps to conclusions.

Also Shen Yuan as such a mythical beast fanboy.

Summary: In a just world, Nealan of Queenscove would still have been a third son. In a just world, he would have been in love with Keladry of Mindelan. This isn't a just world, but he can dream about it.

Or, the Kel/Neal/Yuki manifesto.

Review: Am I a Kel stan? Absolutely. Do I normally read ship fic for her? Not really.

So this fic snuck up on me a bit. But my huge soft spot for situationship romances drew me in. Lady Ragnell has a great Neal voice. Part knight, part healer. All loyalty and to sharp tongue.

The fic spans the last two of Kel's books and the peace after. And we see Neals love for both partners grow from a potential to full bloom with Yuki beside him growing into her own love.

Warnings: Temporary Character Death (due to time travel); Canon Typical Violence

Author's Website: tciddaemina's AO3

Summary: The Night King dies eight years early, slain by a Jon Snow who remembers a life once lived. Here are the repercussions.

Review: Time travel fixits run a pretty wide range of fixes. From complete fix every plot point to came back just before the big event and fix that one thing and solves the issue in one blow. This one is unusual because it's in the lesser seen middle ground. Where the character changed most things by fucking off and doing something completely different from canon.

I'm this case Jon comes back and immediately goes north of the wall. Leaving a note to his father to deal with the canon shit. The narrative then follows him and later Tormund in saving the Wildlings/Free Folk. And south of the wall, almost as a side effect. Which means most of the main fic is focused on different Free folk cultures.

With a little of the original canon plot elements creeping in around the Epilogue from Ned's POV. But even then his focus is mainly on his trip through the North to see Jon. With the sequel set a few years later and highlighting the differences in broader world.

As someone with a soft spot for culture focused fiction this absolute focus on interpersonal and cultural byplay is an absolute joy. Along with the kindness shown among the various characters in situations where in canon cruelty would rule the day.

Relationship: Sui Zhou/Tang Fan
Length: 7.2k
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply (passing mention of previous canon typical violence)

Author's Website: azurewaxwing AO3

Summary:

“You’re sure you didn’t do something to it? They don’t usually stall out,” Sui Zhou says. He looks away from Tang Fan, out the windshield at the endless rust-red of the planet.

Tang Fan pouts at this, and slumps down on the edge of the console, feet propped up at an absurd angle against the pilot’s seat. “You think I’d fake a mechanical issue just so that they’d send a sexy Fleet crewman out here to rescue me?” As soon as the words are out of his mouth, he giggles. “Okay, I would do that, but I promise that this time the problem is real.”

Sui Zhou, Tang Fan, and an emergency rescue in the Martian wilderness.

Review: A shorter fic really focused on first meetings between Sui Zhou and Tang Fan in universe. Includes some awesome in universe details on their background and fun hints to the world building, but definitely not the focus. Azurewaxwing has a great Sui Zhou voice which is used well in this and the author's other Sleuth fics.

I often find that for fandoms that are heavily reliant on their setting and time period, complete AUs fall flat. How do you convey the same level of detail in clothing, food, jobs, etc that are so heavily reliant on time and place? For instance their in canon first meeting where Tang Fan knows who Sui Zhou is thorough the style of his boots which are restricted to that branch of the military.

But I never felt like the characters are out of step using that same level of analysis on Tang Fan's outof place warm weather space suit, since he just transferred off a warmer planetoid. Or the use of restricted land vehicles instead of specialized horses. Its a real triumph for the writer and makes a great and immersive read despite the fics shorter length.

Summary: Wu Xie drags himself through an academic conference and gets lots of use out of his wheelchair.

Review: Lovely fic about a day in the life traveling as spoonies. Love the difference in Wu XIe and Xiaoge's presentation. And Pangzi remains best bro. Lots of small humors, struggles, and acts of care as to be expected from MountainRose who has a specialty in that kind of fic.

Also I love the no power setting. So rare to see someone keep the same basic jobs and roles in non power AUs. Particularly Disabled non-power AU. But they get to keep their love of the jungle and tombs. And focus on protection of relics. Even when not fighting off giant snakes.
