Inuyama Aoi & Kagamihara Nadeshiko & Oogaki Chiaki & Shima Rin
    Summary
One of my favor comfort shows. I'm a camper and seeing them out in nature scratches the itch. I love their friendships. Both one on one and in a group.

Its a great low stakes anime that still takes time to show the day to day inconveniences and problems that come along with travel and life.

Would love anything from a new camping adventure. To life when they are older and stakes are a little higher. Or a day at room camp, dealing with school stuff.

Fel & Mukouda Tsuyoshi & Sui
    Summary
I'm Anime fandoms only. So don't have familiarity with the later parts of the series. I love the focus on food and trying new recipes. Food and cooking and pets are two of my soft spots so this was a shoe in as one of my fave slice of life shows.

Reverse isekai with the familiars in modern world. New places to explore. They try to make your favorite recipe. All would be great!

    Fandom: We Bare Bears (Cartoon)

Grizz & Ice Bear & Panda
    Summary
Older fandom but I similar to the other two I loved the slice of life and unexpected things being thrown in the mix. Even while they usually kept things lower stakes. While still not being afraid to bring in the absurd and partially supernatural.

Day in the life. The bears go on a trip. Or if you are up for it something post Movie when they aren't the only Bears in the City. For Tabes I just love her whole deal. She's focused, driven, and soooo Neurodivergent. How does that work with adjusting to being friends with bears, big foots, and other talking animals

Fandom: The Fall of the House of Usher (TV 2023)
        Lenore Usher & Morella Usher
        Juno Usher & Morella Usher
    Summary
So my other genre love besides slice of life is horror. And this series just hit the soft spots. So many female characters and avoiding child possession which is a major trigger for me.

Would love to see a situation where Lemme and Morella get away ahead of the Fall. Particularly if there is a deal loophole that let's Lenore live. Juno, oh Juno. As a fellow chronic pain haver her arc was just *chefs kiss* I'd love some of her and Morellas lives post series. Two women recovering both in body and from getting tangled up with monster husbands.

    Fandom: Zombieland (2009 2019)
Columbus & Little Rock & Tallahassee & Wichita
    Summary
Horror and slice of life. How could I resist. Would love any day or days in the life between the movies. Becoming a family and road tripping across the country

I love the Iron triangle and am always up for adventures or days hanging around eating and caring for each other. Before, during, or after Series. Also seeing them draft prickly hedgehog Liu Sang is  always fun. Hei Xia Zi all the sass and so uncle he can't stop collecting godsons. Adopts one more in Says Lui Sang. Or on being big brother to another immortal adjacent in Xiaoge, dealing with him always forgetting. And then knowing he had new people helping care for him.

    Summary
Shang Qinghua and Shen Yuan the bicker bros. Either with or without transmigration. An author and his harshest critic who also keep bailing each other out is such a fun dynamic.
Poor Yue Qingyuan give this man some closure and less tragedy. Fixits much appreciated wether that's original timeline without transmigration or some majic Shen Jiu comexs back in canon.

I love Saitama in all his apathetic and kinda illogical glory. He's living off the grid and keeping a decent house with a strong budgeting instinct. But never noticed he was supposed register as a working hero. He doesn't initially like being followed by Genos as his disciple but also doesn't have any actual plan to escape the relationship.

Kills without much concern, while at the same time having a much higher awareness of the consequences to civilians than most of the other heroes we see, including Genos at the start.

Genos has such an adorable hero worship crush. Will he ever stop blowing himself up?

How do they change to better help each other in general and in achieving their goals.

February Ficlet Roadtrip Series
chibifukurou: (Default)

Fandom: The Untamed
Relationship: Gen; Background Wei Wuxain/Lan Wangji
Length: 32k
Warnings: Canon typical Violence and sexism

Author's Website: MarbleGlove

Summary: The Elders of the four Great Sects: Jiang, Nie, Jin, and Lan. (for some definition of "Elder")
Sometimes, you just have to know when to stop pushing so hard. Work smarter, not harder, etc.

Review: Fix it for the Untamed that revolves around various cultivators focusing on their own health and chronic conditions rather than sect nonsense.

Fix its are common in any Tragedy canon and the Untamed is no exception. Though most of the time this focuses on making someone more powerful rather than giving up on power.

In addition to my love of seeing something different in the fixit genre. MarbleGlove is known for these types of AUs. But I particularly love this AU because it both has a lot of humor and is inherently about showing kindness both to others, and more importantly to yourself.

Rest is Revolution Series

Fandom: 僕のヒーローアカデミア | Boku no Hero Academia | My Hero Academia (Anime & Manga)
Relationship: Bakugou Katsuki/Yagi Toshinori | All Might; past Aizawa Shouta | Eraserhead/Yagi Toshinori | All Might; Bakugou Katsuki/Monoma Neito
Length: 49k
Warnings: Graphic Depictions of Violence; Danger to Children (consistent with setting); Passing mention of Suicidal Ideation

Author's Website: hemingyay's AO3

Summary: Katsuki says, ‘You’d think differently of me if you knew everything.’ If you knew how bad things are with my quirk now. Or about my massive disgusting crush on you, Katsuki thinks.

‘I wouldn’t. Whatever happens, I’m always going to be in your corner, Katsuki,’ All Might tells him.

After Katsuki loses an arm saving Izuku, he drops twenty spots in the hero rankings and the world assumes his career is over. Forced back to Musutafu, he’s appointed a babysitter while he recovers: All Might.

It doesn’t help he never got over his giant, stupid teenage crush on him and his quirk isn't working the way it used to. In any case, Toshinori really doesn’t seem to mind.

Review: So I'm mostly in the teacher track part of the BNHA fandom. Where canon disabled characters abound even if not well explored in canon. Yagi Toshinori who is very obviously dealing with a degrading body in canon is a particular hot bed for deeply disabled and adult fics.

This is an unusual overlap between that and the younger generation. Where Yagi as mentor is acting as a mentor into becoming disabled and retaining heroic status. In mirror to his canon issues about being a mentor while dealing with his own issues around quirklessness.

Also some really raunchy and kinky sex. That acts as part of the character arc. Rather than sex and romance being the character arc.

Fandom: Epic NPC Man
Relationship: Gen
Length: 7.5k
Warnings: No Archive Warning Applies

Author's Website: Fresne's AO3

Summary: It started out as a simple fishing trip. Something to do to get away from all the toxicity. Guildeluec9 didn't expect anything more.

Then there was a lot of fishing.

Review: Bit of a self indulgent rec. Cause this one was actually written as a gift fic to me. But it is Very very much a fic who loves it's source material with tons of lore and cameos for any Epic NPC man fan to enjoy. Even if you arent as fishing game theme obsessed as I am.

If you aren't familiar with the Epic NPC man universe but do play Multiplayer games in the swords and magic style you mat still enjoy the fic as it plays into the same themes of satirizing the genre as the Epic NPC skits do.

Good. Nice. Fishing.

Coming out a little late this week. Was working to finish up my Feb goals. Managed 56 books read but only 24 of 28 prompt fills for February Ficlet. Likely effected by the two emergency pinch hits I picked up for a joint length of 5k.

Fandom: Stranger Things (TV 2016)
Relationship: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson; Robin Buckley & Steve Harrington; Eddie Munson & Wayne Munson
Length: 120k
Warnings: Canon typical violence; Era/Region expected queerphobia;

Author's Website: FarahsAmboolents' AO3

Summary: Series from a variety of POVs following Eddie post Season 4 where he survives but is disabled. Wayne is a great gay uncle. And Steve becomes a Firefighter who's a friend of Dorothy much to oblivious Eddie's surprise.

Review: I'm a collector of Group Dad friend fics. Where to various extents everybody in a friend's group gets adopted by a dude. Sometimes that's a time traveling friend. Sometimes like this one it's the chill gay uncle.

First fic is from Wayne's POV post season 4. Where he doesn't know about the Upside down. The outsider POV is chefs kiss. From there the timeline spreads as kids grow and come out as friends of Dorothy. Learn to live with me disabilities. And various other parts of being in your early 20s and on the outside of your community. With Wayne as an older queer rep of how to survive in that liminal space.

Summary:Nine girls bound together
in beautiful, virtuous Havenwood,
a refuge from an unsafe world.

Then there are eight
one of them gone --
departed with no warning.
Did this member of their pack
stray willingly,
or did something more sinister occur?

The girls seek answers
not knowing if they should be angry
or frightened
or perhaps,
they should be both.

Review: So this is kinda a mixed bag rec. I enjoyed it and I think anybody reading it will find interesting ideas about how to construct a book. But its not the kind of book I'm going to go out and share with everybody I know. And not just because of the major trigger warnings.

A mystery about a missing girl told partially by each of the titular members of the pack. It is also told in plural narrative when more than two of the girls are present in a place or scene. Which is a fascinating way to look into the group think in a closed high control religious group.

As you see things on three levels. What the girls as a whole know they should think and do. What the girls communicate to each other and those outside the group when they are more free to think for themselves. And how the group then works together to integrate the individual knowledge into their religious doctrine.

As I've seen said in other recs, I don't think the fairly banal mystery took away from what the author was trying to explore here. But I also don't think I'd go you know that mystery was just too good it took away from the point of the narrative setup if it had been more twisty.

Summary: Luo Binghe has it all: the respect of the cultivation world, the home he always wanted, and Shizun's love. There's just one problem: if Shizun ever finds out he's a demon, it's going to ruin everything.

Review: Neery is one of my favorite authors. I've followed them in a number of fandoms and always enjoy when we end up in the same one at the same time. Luo Binghe's voice is impeccable and Neery does such a good job of Knowing both what is factually going on in the story and showing how fact of Binghe's understanding is. Playing with an unreliable narrator which such a skilled hand that you start to jump along as he jumps to conclusions.

Also Shen Yuan as such a mythical beast fanboy.

Summary: In Kentucky Route Zero, the world is ending, and you can’t save it. Can you find a good life anyway?

Review: Lily Alexander is one of my favorite video essayists. This essay is her only one about a video game but she brings her same editing sensibilities to the project. Music underscores the points she is trying to make and on screen text from the game is summarize to help keep the pace.

The game itself is a slower point and click adventure that doesn't follow the traditional genre structures. LA does a good job exploring these differences from a trans and disabled POV. While also walking you through the story and it's atmosphere.

Summary: In a just world, Nealan of Queenscove would still have been a third son. In a just world, he would have been in love with Keladry of Mindelan. This isn't a just world, but he can dream about it.

Or, the Kel/Neal/Yuki manifesto.

Review: Am I a Kel stan? Absolutely. Do I normally read ship fic for her? Not really.

So this fic snuck up on me a bit. But my huge soft spot for situationship romances drew me in. Lady Ragnell has a great Neal voice. Part knight, part healer. All loyalty and to sharp tongue.

The fic spans the last two of Kel's books and the peace after. And we see Neals love for both partners grow from a potential to full bloom with Yuki beside him growing into her own love.

Summary: Baelin (Rowan Bettjeman), a simple background NPC in the video game 'Skycraft' has been walking the same route for as long as he can remember. However, his peaceful (and mindless) routine is violently shaken as a short-tempered Adventurer (Ben Van Lier) drags him off his path and into a dangerous quest to escort a mysterious NPC girl named Willow (Phoenix Cross) across the harsh world of Azerim.

Review: I'm a sicker for a non verbal.or differently verbal maim Character. And fishing mechanics in video games. Put them together and you get chibi cat nip. While not one of the big players in the Epic NPC player skit universe he pops up time to time as both an identity joke as he's played by the same actor as Bodger who ia on a lot og skits and for Fishing themed skits.

It was fun seeing him used to full effect in Baelin's Route. Particularly since despite the longer format, Viva La Dirt League didn't flinch from committing to the bit. The signature that makes their skits so iconic. All of Baelin's attacks remain fishing themed. His dialog never slips. An despite it all you will still get a heart felt narrative involving intreage and growing friendship. Though not a lot of surprises to the plot as grough older mam rescues young innocent protagonist despite his attempts to be mission oriented is beyond icon and reaching to the point of parody at thod point.

Baelin's Route

Talk about an unexpected joyous moment you experienced last year.

I was able to get a new cat in the summer of 2024. He's a good boy. A real Original Red Bull flavored orange boy. All the energy but not a lot going on between his ears.

There has been a lot good moments with him. He came to me with barely treated Hyperthyroidism so he was skin over barely padded bones. By late in the year I got to see him with a little pooch belleh. And most days when I'm home, either off or WFH he's will be within arms reach or right on top of me. Both my other boys are more independent. Which isn't a bad thing, but it's nice to have a lapcat again.

Other good things, were the start of a new job. One where I wasn't covering for multiple open jobs. And I was able to fund a new sewer line, as I continue to work towards getting my home easier to live in and more like I want it in general. And a new mobility aid that is easier on my body than a wheelchair.

There were hard things, politics, getting sicker, family stress, etc but mostly in a personal space the world was kind.
