Day 9
In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) but you ended up loving. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
This is an interesting challenge for me, because I generally don't read a lot outside of my comfort zone. I don't tend to read things that are heavy on sex or involve someone in power taking advantage of someone they are responsible for.
That should give you a basic understanding of where these recs are coming from:
Finding Happy by ScyllaBlue
This is basically a PWP with some plot thrown in. It's one of the few short PWP fics I've read and loved not just for the plot but for the sex. ScyllaBlue does a great job of weaving her characters varying mind-sets throughout the story.
Learning to Fly Series by Menirva
This one rubs up against a lot of my sore spots. People taking advantage of other people, stockholm's syndrome, torture and drugging as a means of imprisonment and control.
Basically I don't know why I love it so much, but it remains one of my favorite of Menirva's fics.
Birds of a Feather by hollydermovoi
Not sure if this counts, because I expected to enjoy it, I just didn't expect to enjoy it nearly as much as I do. This is a short series of half-meta/half-fics that I was expecting to read and forget, but boy does it hit hard, for all of its oddness and shortness.
