Blaise had always been at the fringes of Hogwarts social groupings. He didn’t believe in the Death Eater cause but he most definitely wasn’t Light. He supposed it was a consequence of having a Dark mother who wouldn’t be controlled by any man, even a Dark Lord.

His mother always told him not to expect anyone at Hogwarts to be his friend, and until he’d met Neville he’d never had reason to believe differently. Neville existed on the fringes too; he was Ying to Blaise’s Yang. They’re school life was unremarkable, but afterschool they lived together in the grey fringe.
