The residents of Godric’s Hollow are used to unusual happenings. Twenty-five years ago a gas explosion left a husband and wife dead and their baby missing, seven years ago the body of a woman who’d been skinned alive was found, and five years ago a mysterious redheaded woman moved into the haunted house just outside of town.

The majority of the townspeople distrust her, but the old women treat her kindly. They’ve seen the candle that lights her window each night and they remember lighting their own, every candle a beacon guiding their husbands and sons home from the war.
