I wanted to. But nope, it didn't happen.

Work was busy-busy. I had an audit to perform with one of our auditor trainees and it was a good bit more in-depth than I expected. I'd blocked out 2 hours for it and it ended up being 2 1/2 hours and I didn't even get the report written up. Oh well, it is what it is.

And then when I got home there was stuff to do with the hubby and things to clean up and a long walk after dinner so I didn't get much written at all. Only 1200 words. I am up to 14K, though, so I'm not worried about it. Not sure that I'm going to keep the twist that I just put into the story. I think it's too soon for it. Or maybe it's not right yet. We'll see. I'll think it over, sleep on it and then write more tomorrow.

Hopefully without cutting the words I wrote today.

Didn't get more homemade Lush made. I might go nuke some cocoa butter and mix it with jojoba oil before I run my bath, just to see how that goes. But probably not.

Goals for tomorrow include writing, getting the POD version of this week's story done since it didn't happen tonight, exercises, and maybe, if I have time, homemade Lush products.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Another busy day

Work was busy enough, between meetings, that I got not one word written even on breaks. I did get 2400 words after dinner. Sinead has dealt with the issue of the transwoman and is now dealing with a surprising issue with her mother. Should be interesting to see how that plays out. I've no idea how long this story is going to be but right now I'm above 12K and just barely started. Just have to keep on writing until I find the ending.

And see if my internal sense that this all ties back into Sinead's Delbhana relatives is correct. Which would be cool if I can make it work out.

We'll see.

Got my steps today because the hubby had his mid-year performance review and needed to to babble while walking it off.

I'm kind of noodling on a new world in the back of my head. I'm not sure I'll actually write it anytime soon, though. I want to combine harems and veils with temperate rain forests like in the Puget Sound but I'm not sure how to do that yet. I need to figure out clothes and food and terrain and maybe draw a map or something. You know, in my copious amounts of spare time. I did do some doodles of potential ways of doing the veils (think bamboo / reed / straw woven hats that people wear all the time) but I don't know that I'd want to do it that way. Would everyone wear hats all the time? How would that affect their society? How the hell would I describe people's expressions???

I don't know. I'm still pondering it for now. More sketching may be necessary.

The one thing I did get done this morning before work started was that I got this week's short story into ebook format. Now all I have left is the POD format and I'll be ready to upload on Thursday. That's good even though no one is really buying the series. *sad sigh* Don't care. I enjoyed writing it and I'm going to share it even if no one sees and cares for a good long time.

Goals for tomorrow include writing, finishing the POD, exercises, making homemade Lush products, and that's about it.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

...mostly because of a very different verbal pattern from my own. But it's going. I got 2500 words today and Sinead's into the mystery. Actually two mysteries that she's not aware yet are related. I've no idea how they're related yet but yeah, they're related. Somehow. I'll find out as I write.

And I have an official transwoman character in the story so now I have to figure out how Atalyan society feels about trans people. But that's a job for tomorrow. My eyes are burning. It's definitely time to get off the computer.

Not to mention that my torn fingernail on my pinky is not making typing fun at all.

Got my steps today, which is good. Not so good is that I forgot that my mother's birthday is on Wednesday and I didn't buy her a birthday card this weekend. So it's going to get there late. Darn it.

Goals for tomorrow include sending out the card, writing, exercises, preparing for the audit this week, and maybe making some more Lush replacements in the evening. We'll see how I feel tomorrow after work.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

It's a Matriarchies of Muirin novel, set in the far north of Atalya with Delbhana Sinead (from Repair and Rebuild and Running From the Storm) as the POV character. Except she's not Delbhana anymore. She's Dana. And on her own in Atalya because she can't go home if she wants to live.

I'm planning on a mystery of sorts but right now I don't know just how mystery-like it'll be. I'm going to give it my best and see what happens.

Also, I turned in the first novel of the challenge. I'm 100% going to forget about it, not think about it in anyway, because otherwise I'll worry myself to a frazzle and that does no one any good. Especially me.

Yesterday the hubby and I went on a nice long bike ride only to discover afterwards that the tires on our bikes were dramatically low. Very annoying and much more work than it should have been. We fixed it and the bikes seem fine. My legs, not so much.

Today was laundry day and somehow I managed to tear my right pinky nail right into the quick taking clothes out of the laundry. A good quarter of an inch into the quick. So I've got a bandaid over it and I'm really not enjoying typing right now. Especially hitting enter or backspace. Darn it all.

Can't be helped but man, I really wish I hadn't done that.

Goals for tomorrow include writing, chicken and rice for dinner, exercises, and getting this week's story ready for formatting.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

I had to go to Copenhagen for a couple of days for work, and [personal profile] lysanatt very graciously put up Fluffy and me. I was hoping to stay until Saturday, but then Fluffy got a tick-related rash on Thursday and I felt like I had to get it checked out before the weekend. So after finishing up early yesterday, we drove back home and went to the vet. Thankfully [personal profile] lysanatt and [personal profile] oneiriad had a date to go to a concert on Thursday, and we managed to eat sushi/pizza with [personal profile] blnchflr before they went off. Blnchflr and I took Fluffy for a walk before she left, but poor pupper was so tired from catching Pokemon with Lýsa that he just had to be carried home... I'm sad I didn't get to stay and hang out, especially considering how I missed all the fun last weekend with [personal profile] dancing_serpent, but I'm glad we at least got to hang out. And it was so nice to have Lýsa to defrief with after work every day.

The vet visit was okay. I tried to get J to come with us, but she had a reception to go to, so we ended up going alone. The nurse had booked us into a double slot, which meant technically there wasn't any time, but she wanted to make sure the vet saw us before the weekend - which was so nice of her! Fluffy does not like the vet's office by now - he has been poked with sharp needles far too many times - so I went in alone to ask about the wait time, leaving him in the car. He took that surprisingly well (maybe his thought process was, "Oh good, it's mom who has to be tortured this time, I'll just wait here"), and the nurse in the reception suggested we wait in their grass enclosure behind the building. I had been prescient enough to bring toys, and we ended up waiting for half an hour, but Fluffy was having the best time playing fetch. The vet came outside himself to get us, and I literally just put Fluffy on his leash and ran him inside and then scooped him up and put him on the exam table before he realized what was happening XD The vet cleaned the tick bite and put him on a short course of penicillin, and we were out again in 7 minutes where the nurse had chicken treats which Fluffy actually deigned to eat (usually he will not eat any treats in the vet's office). Also it ended up being only ~700DKR! I had been joking it would be 1k for the rush, but no! Also while in there the vet said that based on the tiny size of Fluffy's nads, the chemical castration is still in effect - 13 months after the injection, which was said to last only 6! Value for my money!

I was so tired last night, though. Luckily I found some food in the freezer, and then I crashed for over an hour and woke up super grumpy without any candy in the house. So after walking Fluffy for the night, I felt like such a grease-bag as I literally took the car to the supermarket and bought soda, icecream, Pringles and chocolate (and milk for my morning coffee). I totally deserved it! But I was also deeply grateful for the self-checkout >_> I came home and ended up watching Mrs. Doubtfire on Netflix.

I am so glad Mrs. Doubtfire is on Netflix and that I got to watch it yet again. It's such an odd movie, but I love it. I don't love all the horrible slap-stick and embarrassment humor, but I just love that Mrs. Doubtfire is so awesome at everything? I love that she is much better at organising and being authoritative than Daniel is. I remember watching this movie dozens of times as a kid, and of course the fascination was the gender aspects even before I understood much about that. I love how Daniel's brother is gay, and although his relationship with his husband is as despairingly sexless as you'd expect of a 90s movie (they literally hip bump when they ought to kiss), I still think one of the best lines is when Daniel shows up at his house and says, "Can you make me a woman?" and his make-up artist brother just goes "Oh, honey, I'm so happy!" I know everything is played for laughs, and that it's supposed to be grotesque and maybe I've just watched it too young to pick up on all the awful, but I never think any of it is overly judgmental? I love how Mrs. Doubtfire is so admired by the busdriver! I love how she plays soccer in heels, and how she does a sexy dance when she is vacuuming all alone.

While driving home yesterday I also finished The Golden Compass. This is the third time I read this book. In the past it has always been a slow read, but this time I think it went fast. I switched between listening to the audiobook version and reading the Everyman's Library omnibus edition. The audiobook is made with a full cast and narrated by Philip Pullmann, which he does impressively well - he is just as good as any professional narrator, but then it's probably easier for him because he doesn't have to do the voices! I enjoyed it as much as the last two times around, but I'm still left with a feeling like I don't quite get the ending, Lord Asriel's explanation of Dust/experience/sin/Tree of Knowledge and the conversation between Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter (and the seemingly very contradictory behavior of their daemons?). Still, the world building is amazing, and Lyra is one of the strongest characters in any work of fiction I've read. I wasn't expecting it to go this fast, but since it's going so well, I might as well continue with The Subtle Knife and just see how far I get.

Finished the novel!

Whoot! One novel down out of the three I wanted to write for the challenge. :D I wrote about 3800 words today, finishing the novel out at 51,500 words, give or take a few.

I'll give the ending (probably the whole thing) a read-over tomorrow and then it's off to the person running the challenge so he can read it and let me know what he thinks. Then I'll be biting my nails for a week waiting to hear back. *groan*

So of course I've already decided what to write next because damn it, I'm not losing my streak and I'm definitely not going to fuss over the feedback. Derail myself big time if I did.

The next novel will be another Muirin novel, this time set in Atlaya with Delbhana Sinead as the POV character. I'm going to throw a mystery of some sort at her and have her solve it, then move on to another port, another country, like the lone wolf she is. If it works out, it's the start of a series of novels about "Dana Sinead" slowly working her way back to Aingeal and Raelin's side.

Yes, I have plans for that. Eventually. I have a couple, maybe three or so, more novels to write before I get there. Completely aside from rewriting Daughter of Chaos and Gwen's thing with the Ladies. (Those are up free on my DW if you're curious. Go digging for Daughter of Chaos and Saving the Dana.) *grin*

I did get my steps today. Getting groceries will do that. I'm hoping that the weather is nice enough for the hubby and I to go do something tomorrow. No idea if it will be. It's kind of rainy and grey today so hiking or biking don't sound like fun at all.

Either way, goals for tomorrow include starting the next novel, exercises, something fun, reading over the novel I just finished and sending it off. That's about it.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

...I think. Pretty sure anyway. Eser's finally beaten the Xr'x (brain worms) and now she just has to survive the damage from the last battle, get a whole new species to help her and then put the space station back together.

Oh, and turn in her report to Earth on time. Somehow I think she's going to fail on that one. XD

Got my steps today due to having an internal audit at work. Lots of walking all over the plant will give you your steps. Got another one next week but that's next week, thank goodness.

I got this week's novel up on all the sites. It's available right now on Kobo, on Amazon and on Smashwords for $5.99. The title is Fighting the Morrigan's Hand and it's the next Matriarchies of Muirin novel. Fun one where I got to go to Chinwendu and get inside Aravel's head. He's sneakier than I thought.

Do consider checking it out!

Not much else to report tonight. I'll get the Now Available post up next week once CreateSpace clears.

Goals for tomorrow including writing, getting groceries, exercises, getting more Muirin story bible stuff done and that's about it.

Keanu clung to his form. Only Cyrille, his beloved First Follower, kept him from being blown apart by the power of the sea surrounding him.

Baby gods should never confront the Gods of the Sea. They just shouldn't.

But the team needed Keanu so he had to cope with the roar of the waves, the pounding of the surf, the tearing at his fragile energies.

Find This Story:

On Kobo $2.99 ebook
On Smashwords $2.99 ebook
On Amazon $2.99 ebook or $5.99 TPB
On CreateSpace $5.99 TPB

Yay, I got this up when I wanted to instead of weeks later! *laughs at myself* Sometimes you have to take your wins where you get them.

So yeah, another Gods Above and Below story up and available. Keanu faces some threats and makes some changes in this one. Hope you enjoy if you choose to read!

*happy dance*

Very successful day

I got a ton of work-work done, which is always good. Not fun but hey, pays the bills. Sort of. *sigh* Just a good thing I have a husband or I'd not be paying the bills on my pages...

I also got this week's story completely ready for publishing. Yesterday for some reason I was completely convinced that it was Tuesday so I worked extra long (thus no post last night) to try and get the POD done. Except yeah, yesterday was not Tuesday. Made a lot less work to do today though so I'm happy. I got the POD finished, created the cover and got the ebook done today. Whoot! Now I can make sure I get the story bible updated and maybe get more older Muirin stories reformatted this week. *rolls eyes* It never ends. There's always too much to do.

In addition, I got 2600 words on the novel. Eser has a new ally who can, possibly, help her solve the Xr'x problem. Except that she has to find them a new home. It's like those old fairy tales where you can save the princess if you get this thing for this animal and that thing for the next, on and on in an impossible chain. Much fun to write Eser putting all the pieces together. I do think I'm approaching the end of the novel. It's got that dramatic climax coming feeling to it but I don't know if that's three chapters to the end or six or seven yet. I'll just have to keep writing.

Didn't get my steps today because the hubby wanted to run a couple of errands after work. Both of which failed utterly as the eye doctor had moved offices without us realizing it and the service appointment we wanted to make turned out to be something you HAVE TO do over the phone. Told him we should have just called but no, he wanted to do it in person. Seriously, and sometimes I think I have problems with calling people. *shakes head*

Tomorrow's goals are write another chapter (or two!) on the novel, get reformatting done on Muirin, update the Muirin story bible for this week's novel, exercises and make tacos for dinner. Because tacos are good.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Whoot! Much done today

This was a really busy day but hey, we got lots of things done. Spent the morning doing yardwork out in the front yard. The lawn got cut, the wisteria was cut back in a very serious way. With the hedge trimmer which is always fun. Then I cut down the lilac bush in front of my office and trimmed back our Japanese maples which had turned into Hortas trying to take over the front lawn. Did a bit of trimming on the lilac bush in front of the hubby's office but we ran out of space on the yard waste bin. Next weekend we'll get it trimmed back.

Also pulled a LOT of weeds, mowed most of the lawn in the back yard, and dumped those trimmings on the garden as mulch.

All while cooking a pork shoulder in the smoker.

That turned out super-tasty, if a little drier than normal. The hubby raised the cooking temperature and it didn't turn out the same as always. Next time, back to the normal method, I think.

After yard work was done, I started writing. Today I got 4100 words on the novel done. Eser's gotten the dragons moving but they were too late. The Xr'x, my parasitic aliens, have broken loose and now the station is falling apart. In the most literal way possible because yeah, it was time for things to go very, very sideways. XD

Despite all the yard work, I didn't get my steps today. Pulling weeds may be exercise but it doesn't count as steps. Sadly.

Goals for tomorrow include exercises, writing, actually getting this week's story into preliminary format (finally, darn it. Never did get there today), and making pork tenderloin for dinner.

Off to bath and bed for me--I'm in need of hot water. Goodnight everyone!

Went to see Wonder Woman...

Jun. 10th, 2017 08:43 pm
me_ya_ri: white lotus flower on green water with reflection in the water (Default)
[personal profile] me_ya_ri
...and it was awesome! The hubby thought it was a pretty solid, pretty good movie. He had no idea Steve Trevor was all but marked for death from the moment he appeared. I did. It was telegraphed early on IMO. But man, the Amazons were awesome and I want to lose weight and gain muscle so I can cosplay them. I loved the No Man's Land scene, the sniper in the tower and that last battle was incredible! *happy wiggle*

Did not love the theater we went to see it in. Cost an arm and a leg but the chairs were pretty nice. Oh well. I got to see it in the theater so I'm happy.

We also walked around the mall, got lunch and then came home. I had time for some writing, then dinner and we went walking for 2 1/2 miles. The hubby felt bad about his calorie intake and hey, really, those Amazons were very inspiring on the exercise front. XD

I got 2800 words written today. Eser has smacked dragons on the nose, infuriated Xr'x who came back to life and she's threatening to send the entire human race into a mob frenzy to kill the Xr'x. While goading the dragons into action. No small actions for Eser. She's going to fix this problem if its the last thing she ever does.

Might be, honestly. She's really digging the hole deep right now. But then I'm at about 34K and I think I'm maybe halfway through the story so it's got to go sideways on her soon. Not sure how. I'm going to ponder it while taking a bath, then sleep on it and tomorrow we'll see what happens when I sit down and write.

Goals for tomorrow include a massive amount of yard work (the front yard's a mess), slow cooking a pork shoulder (easy and low effort dinner FTW!), writing, and hopefully doing a little work on this coming week's book. I really want to get started on that tomorrow. We'll see. The yard work's going to consume a lot of time and energy.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Passed 30K!

I'm up to 31K on the novel and Eser's getting ready to cause trouble with some really powerful aliens. Because man, she cannot solve this problem by herself and its time for the big guns.

Said aliens are strongly based on oriental dragons because I decided that they came to Earth in human prehistory and mucked around causing legends, trouble and stuff. Just because I can. I mean, if I'm going with Humans are Space Orcs I should have dragons, right? *big grin*

The hubby is back from his business trip. Well, he's at the airport and going through the rigamarole to get to his car and come home. he's not back home yet. Probably in the next hour or so. I'm glad. It was apparently a good business trip though he's seriously hoping not to have to go back ever again.

Though he did get to go to Disneyland last night after work.

Tomorrow he's got ten tons of work he needs to do so I'll probably spend a lot of time writing. Right now, though, I'm going to go change the sheets. They're kind of gross.

So goals for tomorrow include writing, going to see Wonder Woman if I can drag him away (if not on Sunday then), cleaning my pit of an office and maybe laundry to get ahead of it. Oh, and getting next week's novel ready for publishing. Or least getting started on it.

Off to bed making, bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!

Got 4000 words written today and I made it past a point that had me really worried. I just didn't know how I was going to figure it out. But I did. Now I'm at that point in every book I've ever written where I'm completely convinced this is the most transparent, obvious, ridiculously cliched thing I've ever written. No logic, no common sense, plot holes you could drive a bus through...

Yeah, I'm at the halfway point, I think. Either halfway or 2/3. Either way I'm at 29LK and whooshing right along. I doubt I'll have any problems getting it done before the end of the month. Hopefully I'll get done early enough that I can get a head start on next month's novel.

Didn't get my steps today. I wanted to be writing too much. And I didn't get my exercises because I wanted to sleep too much this morning. Bad me. I really need to get back in the habit of that. Especially since I had cheesecake today. It was a coworker's birthday and she shared her cheesecake with me. :D

Tomorrow the hubby comes home. He has a late flight so he won't be back until like 9:00 pm or so. Bummer. I miss having him around even when he's tired and frazzled and depressed. At least he's finally admitted that yes, he has the majority of the symptoms of depression. Not that he's willing to do anything about it. Oh no, he doesn't need to do that. *groan* There's only so much you can do, I suppose. I'll just keep working at supporting him through this.

I did get this week's story into POD format so all I have to do is upload it. I was planning on doing it tonight but writing came first. Tomorrow. I'll do it early come hell or high water.

Goals for tomorrow include groceries, writing (a lot!), getting this week's story uploaded everywhere, learning about Ads for Amazon (I have a class on that), and that's about it.

Off to bath and bed for me--goodnight everyone!
